مطالعات دانشمندان نشان می دهد، فرگشت و تکامل، نقش ابروها را بتدریج تغییر داده است. در اجداد اولیه انسان، ابروها با توجه به برآمدگی محل رویش آنها روی استخوان پیشانی، نقش مهمی در محافظت از چشمها در مقابل باران، گرد و غبار و عرق داشته است در حالیکه با تغییر آناتومیک آنها، همچنین بهبود انعطاف حرکتی، هم اکنون نقش مهمی در ابراز احساسات ارتباطی پیدا کرده است. این فرگشت از 20000 سال گذشته تاکنون، که ارتباطات بشری بیشتر شده، سرعت گرفته است.

A team of researchers at the University of York, England, recently came up with a completely new thesis, according to which eyebrows serve exclusively for communication and the conveyance of emotions.

The ancestors of modern man still had thick, rigid bulges above the eyes. These signal dominance and aggression - this is what the researchers suspect in their study. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

In the course of evolution, the prominent elevations above the eyes gradually receded and the eyebrows that developed there became more graceful and flexible over time. This process has accelerated especially in the past 20,000 years - after people became sedentary farmers and communicated more with one another.

Today we can frown angrily or pull them up in amazement: they reveal a lot about our emotions and our behavior ?
