Naghshe Jahan Square, the first place in Iran set up for UNESCO World Heritage Site 1979, was built on the orders of Shah Abbas the Great between 1598 to 1629. It was the world's largest square until the Tiananmen Square in Beijing was built in 1950. There are three important places in square. Shah Mosque, Ali Qapu Palace and Shejk lotfollah mosque. The square is depicted on Iran's 20000 Rial. One of many important events that took place here was Persian Noroz, and the game Polo, which is a Persian national game. Visiting the square takes a whole day, as there is much to see and do. Horse and buggy around the square costs 20000 rial ($ 1) and All the 200 shops with different crafts around the square is an experience in itself. My tip is to visit the square both day and evening, and don't forget to take Dugh with Goshe Fil, Esfahan's traditional drink, and relax in one of the many cozy restaurants that are here.
میدان نقش جهان که در سال ۱۹۷۹ یکی از اولین آثار ایران بوده که در لیست جهانی یونسکو به ثبت رسیده، به دستور شاه عباس کبیر بین سالهای ۱۵۹۸ تا ۱۶۲۹ ساخته شده است. این میدان در زمان خودش بزرگترین میدان جهان بوده، تا ۱۹۵۰ که میدان تیان آنمن در شهر پکن ساخته شد. در میدان نقش جهان از ۳ مکان مهم باید بازدید کرد که عبارتند از مسجد شاه، عالی قاپو و مسجد شیخ لطف الله. عکس این میدان در پشت اسکناس ۲۰۰۰۰ ریالی چاپ شده است. از اتفاقات مهمی که در این میدان رخ میداده جشن نوروز بوده و بازی چوگان که یک ورزش سنتی ایرانی بوده. بازدید از این میدان یک روز کامل زمان میبره، مثل درشکه سواری دور میدان که فقط ۱۵۰۰۰ تومان است، یا بازدید از چند تا از ۲۰۰ مغازه های که دور میدان است. به نظر من از این میدان هم صبح و هم شب باید دیدن کرد و یادتون نره که وقتی اینجا هستید حتما دوغ با گوش فیل که از زمان شاه عباس در اصفهان درست می‌شده مزه کنید و در یکی از چندین رستوران‌های زیبای اینجا بنشیند و لذت ببرید.
